Polistream: The next level in subtitling transmission systems

Subtitling transmission systems used to rely solely on hardware-based architecture when dealing with multichannel and multi-language installations, thereby requiring large amounts of rack space, complicated configurations and system management that was almost entirely performed on the boxes themselves.
To resolve this problem, subtitling expert Screen Subtitling Systems (555) has introduced a new concept to subtitle transmission by launching the Polistream, a sophisticated soft-ware based line of products that changes the way in which subtitles are being sent through the broadcast chain.

Polistream consists of a powerful configuration and control system that allows remote access to the complex distributed subtitling system The main processing units work as an application and control system.

It can be used in isolation as a high-capacity DVB subtitling transmission system, or as a highly proficient front-end controller of any number of separate subtitling devices, all of which have the added advantage of being con-trolled remotely Using a mix of DVB, Teletext, closed caption, Imitext and open subtitles means that Polistream has complete control of the subtitling application.

In addition to creating a user-friendly system, 555 also offers the Polistream M5X -for remote subtitle monitoring.

The company said that as subtitling trans-mission has become such an integral part of the architecture within the broadcast facilities, the ability to monitor and control the system remotely has become crucial to the broadcaster.

The Polistream M5X, said 555, is a complete monitoring solution for subtitling transmission.
The system brings to the market the capability to monitor subtitles and other data, allowing users to simultaneously analyse data at the point of ingest as well as at the point of contact.

The application runs on any standard PC and can be networked locally via the Internet. With IP access, the M5X can remotely monitor any number of sites, nationally or internationally.

A number of subtitling formats can be monitored, including DVB, Teletext and Imitext. Together with data Broadcasters, channel
managers, content providers or anyone with access rights can view the subtitles from their own desktop.

At the operational level, important presentational characteristics such as subtitle screen position, font type and timing information can also be monitored In the engineering level, detailed information concerning PES (Packetised Elementary Stream) packets, bit rates and throttling performance can be monitored.

The Polistream M5X is suitable for broadcasters looking for a reliable monitoring solution for subtitling transmission and one that can simultaneously support a number of users to do fault diagnostics and issue resolutions
